Simply a Moment: March

Date: 18.3.2014
Time: 11:23am
Location: At home.

There’s a whistle as the wind picks up, swirling round the house, it lifts the dust in the courtyard and as I look out the window the air is suddenly alive with flitting, floating seed heads. Each one sparkles as if they are lit from within. The garden is momentarily transformed into the fairyland of little girl’s stories.

I should have pulled those waist high thistles out before they went to seed … I’ll regret not doing so in a couple months time when they sprout throughout the garden, but right now I’m enjoying the show.

Simply A Moment is hosted by Alexa, you can join in here.

Making Goyoza

was on my 14 Things in 2014 list and we have now made them twice. We followed this recipe for pork goyoza.

The Boy was eager to mix the meat and I was happy to let him.

Then we all joined in the folding and pleating. It was a little tricky for The Boy but fairly straight forward for the girls and I.

The pork mixture was supposed to make 72 dumplings but I only had 32 wrappers. We stir fried up the left over pork mixture with some rice the next day and it was yummy. I've since made it again and we made about 52 dumplings.

I was a bit nervous about the cooking method. You fry the dumplings first in a little bit of oil then pour water into the pan, cover with a tight lid and let steam for 10mins. I don't have a frypan with a tight life but just made added a little more water partway through the steaming and it was fine. You need to be careful lifting them out of the frypan, I used an egg lifter to make sure they didn't get stuck to the bottom. We served up with a soy sauce and rice wine vinegar dipping sauce.

Project Life February 2014

I'm keeping up pretty well so far this year. March once again is a mix of pages following my standard designs mixed with normal scrapbook pages, making a total of 5 double page spreads. The first few pages had our photos from Chinese New Year.

I did a double page layout with the dusk and fireworks photos.

Next a layout just to showcase the silly antics of the kids while sec waited for the fireworks to start. I paired this with our schedule for this term and an iPhone selfie.

Some cooking, The Little Girl's surf day excursion when she didn't get to surf  because she did not have the all clear from the doctor but she did get to make a bird box and see koalas.

Next my Simply a Moment, my February lists and my month in numbers.

Zoom In Zoom Out: Rice Paper rolls

After repeated requests from The Big Girl, who made rice paper rolls in food tech this year, I cleared some space on a hot Saturday afternoon. Between swims in the pool and a basketball game we prepared some yummy prawn and mango rice paper rolls.

Lazy long weekend dinner ...

He pulls the lamb out after ten hours in the wood fired oven. Meat falling off the bone ... yum, yum.

My Month in Numbers: February

2 = the number of games won in the last two seconds by my daughter's basketball team. The Big Girl was the hero in the second one ...

14-15 down with 12 sec to go in the Big Girls basketball match, Cougars have possession. They get the ball down to their goals pass it around until with 1s on the clock it lands in the Big Girls hands. The mum's are all yelling to shoot and she puts it up ... and it lands in the basket. They win 16-15.

It's exciting but my nerves could do with a bit more margin.

5 = the number of swim meets the Little Girl swam in this month. Three were with school ... two of them at MSAC on the same day which necessitated a 7am drop off at school and a 10:30pm finish at MSAC.

5 = the number of school information nights I went to ... yes, I do only have 3 kids.

6 = number of trips to Bunnings. 1 project finished (putting the garden shed on a floor) and 1 still to complete (the pergola).

4 = number of monster size zucchini. Not all of them were quite this big, but I really must learn to check the plant more often. These are not nice to eat.

2 = the number of times we saw the hot air balloons over Melbourne.
