My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My husband's ancestors came out on the first and second fleets (at least one was a marine on the first fleet, another a prostitute) and I had some knowledge of the big picture but this was a fascinating look into the details of what happened. I wasn't aware the Norfolk Island was settled by people from the first fleet for instance. The author's telling of the story is enhanced by of journals and letters written at the time. History made interesting, I highly recommend this book.
