Illustrated Guide to Religions by James A. Beverley

Nelson's Illustrated Guide to Religions: A Comprehensive Introduction to the Religions of the World Nelson's Illustrated Guide to Religions: A Comprehensive Introduction to the Religions of the World by James A. Beverley

I read this as part of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Bloggers program. Nelson's Illustrated Guide to Religions covers more than 200 religions, sects, and cults, most of them ones the reader might encounter on any given day. The book is arranged with a chapter for each religion. Detailed information is given for each religion including timelines, historical information and summary of major beliefs. There are plenty of figures and charts to break up the text. Of particular interest to Christians is the analysis of the beliefs and how they both intersect and differ from Christianity, useful information to know when in discussion with people of other faiths.

I picked this book to review because I thought it would be useful to have a reference book on the religions both for me and a bit later the kids. The depth of information is excellent in this size book and Beverley helpfully gives both internet and print resources for further study if required.
